About Me

My name is Jonathan James and I am a Mechanical Engineering Student at the University of Maryland (Class of 2023), pursuing a career as a Product Development or R&D Engineer.

my story

From a young age, one of my strongest passions was always football. The game teaches valuable lessons such as resiliency, perseverance, collaborative competitiveness, etc. I do not regret playing, but after my first diagnosed concussion, I started to understand the danger of the game.

The year after my first concussion was the first year I took physics and calculus courses. I enjoyed both classes, so naturally, I decided to pursue engineering as my major. I continued to have a passion for athletics, but as my high school career came to an end, I decided it was time to hang up the cleats. I wanted to keep athletics in my life, but my passion would shift from an on-the-field perspective to in-the-classroom.

As I enter my fourth year of engineering classes, I believe my calling is to intertwine my love for engineering and athletics. In short, I want to make athletics safer, so that future generations of players can learn the same lessons I did, without paying the same physical cost. I believe that a position as an R&D or Product Development engineer is the best possible way to chase this dream.
