Like plenty of others, the year 2020 brought a type of anxiety that I had never felt before. Each day seemed to move slower than the last at the pandemic's beginning. I had never been fishing before, but as an excuse to get out of the house, I bought a cheap fishing pole. I had absolutely no intention of continuing this hobby post-pandemic.
In the summer of 2020, I caught a total of 0 fish. I did not have an idea what I was doing, but yet I still fell in love with the hobby. The mornings and nights spent on a lake at sunrise or sunset, casting a line and watching a bobber, gave me a therapeutic feeling that no other activity could.
In the summer of 2021, I did my research and preparation. I began to develop an appreciation for the sport. I understood the tendencies of fish, and I understood what bait and tackle I would need for different situations. Once I made that first hookset, I was hooked.
These days, if I have any free time, you'll probably find me fishing. Whether I catch my personal best, or I cannot get a single bite, there is no other pastime that can relieve stress the way that fishing does.
